2,500 + bicyclists start their journey right on the streets of downtown Hayward for the Chequamegon Fat Tire Race. It's a sight to see for young and old alike. Here at the Hayward KOA, we do our part by providing a complimentary spaghetti dinner for bicyclists (and guests) on Friday evening for a strong and fast start, and then we provide a cleaning station for spiffing up your bike afterwards. After the race, you can soak those tired legs in our heated pool, waiting just for you.
Fall is a great time to go camping without the crowds; we are the perfect location for your fall color road trip, or take in Hayward's Fall Festival. Return in the evening to the serenity of a cozy campfire and the swaying of the big Red Pines.
Originally established as a cross-country ski trail, the American Birkebeiner Trail is still the site of the classic ski race. It has also become a summertime fitness and recreational trail system catering to skiers, runners, bikers, trekkers, and hikers – from casual day-trippers to elite superstars. Put this on your calendar if you want to run at a recreational pace or hammer it on a great trail.
